Jonathan's Debut

Jonathan David Glover
7lbs 10oz, 20 inches, Born Jan 9, 2014 at 6:03pm

Birth Story
Throughout the night I woke up a bazillion times to go to the bathroom.  It was ridiculous.  Around 5:30 I was in bed and coughed and felt a small gush.  I though I might have peed my pants a little, but I really didn't want to get up yet again. I did anyways and found my underwear and pants we pretty wet (enough to leave wet marks on floor when I changed).  I change and went back to bed and it didn't take long for my new clothes were wet too.  Now it was about 6:30.  I changed, put a pad in and laid back down with my ipad to try and figure out if it was really just pee or my amniotic fluid.  At 7am I decided I should probably pack a hospital bag...which meant I googled to see what I needed to actually bring with me.  It was nice to not have to pack everything like I did giving birth in Belgium.  Around 7:30 I called my doctor's office and was told my doctor would call me back.   Ryan was still home but was supposed to be at a meeting at 8am.  I wasn't positive what was actually going on but could definitely feel myself leaking something so I figured I'd have to at least go in and get checked.  At 8am my doctor called back and said I needed to go to the hospital.  It wasn't a huge rush but sooner than later would be good.

Well, at this point I was happy we had finished going through clothes the night before.  I pulled the 3 month boy clothes out of the dryer and folded them and finished off the piece of cheesecake Ryan had brought me home the night before while Ryan got the kids ready to be dropped off at Aunt Cindy's.

We'll skip to a brief timeline of all the in between stuff:
8:45 - Arrived at the hospital, found where to check-in, answered a lot of questions then finally got checked.  I was told my water had indeed broken and I'd be having the baby today, but I was not dialated at all.
9:30 - Ryan arrived after having dropped the kids off and I got moved to a room
10:10 - I got hooked up to the machines and my doctor came by and gave me a pill to help dialate (currently only at 2cm)
12:20 - Still just chilling.  Dialated to a 4cm
2:00pm - Still only 4.5cm, started a pitocin drip
3:00pm - Got an epidural...contractions had started to hurt and now I can just chill.
5:00pm - I wasn't making any progress so the nurse repositioned me to have gravity help a little.

Honestly it was a long pretty boring day, but now things were starting to get going.
Now it starts getting good again...
5:30pm - Ryan went out to the car to see if we had a diaper for Kevin (our packing for them wasn't very good).  Right after he walked out of the room I started feeling some serious pressure down low.  I pressed the epidural button and waited for it to kick in thinking it was just wearing off.  Nope.  15 minutes later Ryan came back and convinced me to buzz the nurse.  I hate buzzing the nurse.  I just feel like I'm complaining.  Anyways, she came in and checked me.  Said I was fully dialated, the baby had dropped and I was ready to push so she'd see how soon the doctor could get there.  My doctor was doing a C-section so it would be about 10 minutes.  It took 5.  He came in and checked things out, told me I could start pushing with the contractions and that he was going to be right outside filling out some paperwork but could come when the baby was ready.  Well, it took all of 2 pushes before the head crowned so the nurse paged him.  He walked in the room, I pushed 5 more times and the baby was out. Kind of crazy.  Ryan had guess he'd be born at 6pm (I guessed 4pm) so pretty close.

Ryan got to cut the umbilical cord.  I held the slimy little guy while the nurses wiped him off a little.  After awhile the nurse took him to do the weight and all the baby check stuff then gave him back. Here he is right after getting all checked out (they put the goop on the eyes to help with something).
We stayed in the delivery room for a couple more hours.  I had to wait for my legs to get back to normal and go potty before moving, plus the rooms were all full.  We finally got moved to my actual room just as dinner came.  I had only had the cheesecake in the morning so I was really hungry.  Ryan stayed until about 9, went and got the kids and brought them back so they could briefly meet their new little brother.

Kherington held him for a couple minutes then was done.  Kevin didn't want to hold him (probably a good thing since he had a little cough).  I tried to get a picture of them all together, but neither Kevin nor Kherington would go get in the other persons picture.  Maybe tomorrow.

Funny
1.  When Ryan was dropping the kid off at the Parente's, he told them we were going to need to move their seats around to put the car seat in.  Neither kids was happy about that.  Neither want to give up the window seat and Kherington is dead set against moving her car seat to the back. Haha. I didn't really think it would be an issue, but it should be fun to figure out.
2.  Kherington's first response after hearing we had the baby was "okay, so mom's done now."
3.  I had to stay hooked up to the liquid drip machine thing because I hadn't peed enough.  When Ryan let he had put the baby back in the little crib.  Not a huge deal....except for the fact that I couldn't get the crib close enough to my machine to actually pick him up.

"They put goop on his eaves to help with something." Not sure why but that line just made me chuckle. You made it sound easy...I know it wasn't a total walk in the park but you made it sound like it was just about that easy. Glad it was simple. Welcome little man Glover.
