The Letter 'L'

We worked on the letter 'L' for a little while today.  I even broke out the glue sticks.  My level of creativity has plummeted since moving here.  Hopefully it will return once we are into out permanent place and have our stuff.  I was getting lunch ready while the kids decorated their 'L' and when turned around Kherington had written her name all by herself from memory (backwards).  I was pretty surprised.  I guess it's time to start doing more with letters/reading/writing.

Sinterklaas 2013

The kids left their shoes by the door and monster apple for the horse and woke up to find that Sinterklaas was still able to find them here in Dallas.  He normally leaves a little gift too, but I'm guessing that the warnings about icy roads made that a little difficult.

After the kids were ready for the day, I put together some super simple marshmallow shooters.  Kherington kept talking about how in Primary they used marshmallow shooters to choose which song to sing.  All is a balloon and a toilet paper tube (or cup) and of course a marshmallow to shoot.  The kids though they were awesome.  Kevin was really launching the marshmallow.  I only gave them 1 so they would have to actually keep track of it.  We also drew a target on the bottom of one of a box to add to the fun.  And just for kicks I threw in a picture of Kevin ready to head to the playground...he's missing a little something.

The Letter 'K'

Kherington has been begging me to have 'school' and work on letters.  Next up was 'K'.  We didn't do anything exciting.  Just talked about what sound it makes and works that start with 'K'.  Then while they were coloring their pictures I asked if she wanted to try writing her name since it starts with 'K'.  I wrote it out then but the 10 lines below for her to do it herself.  She did awesome!  She even then made many more sheets of 10 dashes and continued practicing.

Bedtime Christmas Treats

Before leaving Belgium, one of our friends gave us a kit to make these little boxes for Christmas.  It was so thoughtful and I was really excited to use them especially since we don't have any of our Christmas stuff.  I missed the first 3 days of December but by day 4 I had them all put together and filled with a little treats.  The kids get to open it together after they are all ready for bed.

This is our two monsters all ready for bed and excited to open up the box.  It's funny that looking at pictures makes them look so sweet when in reality I am usually so frustrated with them.

While Daddy's Away

Ryan spent two days in Chicago for training.  The first night he was gone, Kevin had a hard time falling asleep.  I turned off all the lights (kept the nightlights on) and pretended to go to sleep.  A little while later, I found Kevin asleep on the bathroom floor rug.  Silly boy.

The weather was beautiful while he was gone.  The first day we spent a little bit of time at two different playgrounds.  Then the second day we packed a picnic lunch and spent over 3 hours at one playground enjoying the 80 degree weather.

Decorations

Sunday afternoon we broke out the decoration the kids and I had picked up at Walmart a couple days earlier.  The kids got to actually decorate the Christmas tree.  Hopefully we'll add some homemade ornaments in the future.

After the tree was decorated, the kids got to sit around it and eat popcorn for treat.  They definitely love their popcorn.
