...and that means with 2 weeks of vacation (or in Ryan's case just 1 week).
New Years morning, I actually woke up and worked out. I went for a run then did the insanity workout for the day. That meant passing on the delicious looking waffles topped with ice cream, bacon and maple syrup. After I finished my workout and showered, I modified the breakfast a little to make it more appeal for a post workout meal...waffles with fresh berries, plain chobani and a drizzle of honey....now that was truly delicious!
Over the next couple days, everyone started leaving. First the Alabama Glover's headed out, then Adam back to school then Ryan off to Dallas for training. Kevin was one sad boy when his daddy left, but we got to video chat with him each night. Before and after training he stayed at Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dave's house...which meant lots of games, family and dessert (blue bell ice cream sundaes). I would love to someday live near all the Parente families.
Back in Myrtle Beach, we continued having fun. Grandma watched the kids each morning so I could continue my insanity workouts. She also planted the idea to improve my posture after learning about it in her workout class...which I decided would be one of my goals for the new year.
We made a couple more trips to the beach. I love pictures at the because because the kids just look like their bursting with happiness...unless they are fully clothed and drenched :).
I think I've mentioned it, but Kevin still must do everything Kherington does.
One of the other favorite beach activities was chasing flying tissues. Yeah, a little gross too. The wind kept blowing them so they kept chasing them.
We got Kherington's ipod touch in the mail...I call it Kherington's because she will be the primary user. Our ipad is cracked and I figured it was way to expensive to have it fixed. Ideally I want to get an ipad mini, but I figure I can wait for the price to drop so we settled on the touch. That way if the ipad is no longer usable the kids still have something to watch movies on during our road trip. We got the PBS app added AND showed Kherington how to use facetime. Watchout...she's good at it, but no so good about thinking about the time difference :). I also go my new GPS watch in the mail. I ended up getting the Garmin Forerunner 410 with Heart Rate Monitor strap. Hopefully it will motivate me to keep up the running.
The night before we left, after a long day of errand running, I took the kids down to the beach one last time. I had promised them earlier and even though the sun was setting and it was a little cooler, they still loved it.
A couple other fun stories:
We took the kids to the park and on our way stopped by some airplanes statues. We thought it would be a cute picture of Kevin sitting up in one of the propeller holes so I boosted him up and stepped away. He started whining and instead of smiling and I wasn't sure why. I got closer to get him to smile and found I'd set him in a huge puddle of water. So...we detoured to Walmart to buy some pants (I love that I can do that...I wouldn't have such an accessible cheap option in Europe).
The kids got upgraded from their sleeping bags on the floor to sharing the bed (I moved to the Beach room). I went in one night to find them both asleep. Some of the positions they manage to sleep in is baffling to me. Kevin up-side-down is a new one though. While we're talking about sleeping, I guess I should mention that by the end of the trip I had to have Kherington and Kevin in separate rooms because Kevin kept BITING Kheringotn. Ugh. Hopefully we get though this phase quickly.
At the park after playing for awhile on the playground, we decided to feed the ducks. At least that was our idea. Instead it was attack of the seagulls, followed by a very aggressive duck then two huge geese. It ended up being slightly scary.
One last story...not as PG, but funny. Well, I was giving the kids a bath and Kherington looks down and ask, "Mom, why do I have one of these and Kevin has one of those." Not really wanting to have this conversation with my 3 year old, I told her Kevin's a boy and you're a girl...don't worry about it. She climbed into the tub (Kevin was already in) and I went around the corner to the closet to grab PJ's and a diaper. I came back into the bathroom to find her grabbing Kevin's little thing and Kevin standing there going "ow, ow, ow." I guess we'll be having some talks sooner than later.
And the random pictures...Kherigton watching TV in her new sleeping bag and then her playing the guitar to some youtube music. Kevin eating, the kids having snack.
