Yissel, Brittney (a of mine friend from freshman year at collage that recently moved to Dallas and a friend of Yissel's from living in Boston), and I left the kids with our husbands and spent a couple hours out at Canton. Canton has a HUGE flea market once a month or so. I'm not a huge flea market person, but it was fun trip to do with friends and without kids. I ended up buying a huge mirror that I plan on refinishing. When we were walking to the car, two different people stopped and asked us where Brittany found the 'blanket ladder'. I had never heard of people storing blankets on a ladder, but apparently that is a thing. I thought this little kids table and chairs was pretty cute too (white table, blue chairs).

Halloween Night
For actual Halloween night, we went over to our cousins house. After dinner we took the kids trick-or-treating around their neighborhood. It was a little disappointing that only about 1 in 6 houses actually handed out candy. I don't know if it was just here, but I feel like there is no sense of community.
Both Kevin and Kherington fell asleep before we made it home, but Jonathan was still going strong. He was playing with a wrapped twix and I decided I might as well let him try it. When I took it away to open it, he got really mad. That changed once he tasted it unwrapped.

The Carving of the Pumpkin
The day before Halloween and we still hadn't carved the pumpkin. It's a good thing Ryan wanted to carve it or it wouldn't have happened. Carving pumpkins is something that will hopefully be fun when the kids are old enough to gut and carve themselves. Neither of them wanted to help scoop out the guts (as normal). Once carved, we figured out that we didn't have any tea candles...so a quick trip to Walmart later and they kids thought it was awesome! Ryan's gets all the credit for making pumpkin carving/lighting happen (I was hiding out in my room).

Texas Rental Issues
While it has been awesome to have so much more space and a yard and a garage, there have been a couple drawbacks to the new place.
Ants! The living room drops down a step and I guess that makes it more desirable for ants to come in. They are concrete ants (not red ants, but they do bite/sting just not as bad). Pest control has come and sprayed 3 times now. I noticed them on the carpet, but couldn't figure out where they were coming from. They sprayed. Then I found a pile coming from the edge of the room. They sprayed. Then Kevin found a pile spilling out right by the back door. They sprayed again. The pest control guy is very nice and said it is not uncommon to spray multiple times since eggs hatch at different times. I'm crossing my fingers that's is the last we see of them.
I also noticed that our air conditioning unit would be humming away super early in the morning even though the ac was turned off. I finally went and checked it out and found it covered in ice (the white is all ice). Thankfully once it was fixed out electricity bill plummeted.

Lewisville Glow Run
A group of girls from my new ward signed up together for a fun glow run. Our family went early and enjoyed the tent-to-tent trick or treating. Kevin kept changing his costume and ended up in a robot shirt and a superman cape. No one really know what he was.
We had shirts for the glow run that said "Angels don't sweat, they glow." The glow in the dark paint didn't work very well though. I ended up finishing 5th overall and the 2nd girl. I did have a little extra motivation though. Parts of the run was really dark and uneven ground and the girl in front of me had a light. I knew if I slowed down and lost her it would be rough so I kept up with her. How's that for motivation?

Halloween Rounds 1 & 2
We celebrated Halloween multiple times this year. I guess that was fitting considering it was the kids first US Halloween (minus Kherington who enjoyed a Omniture Halloween when she was all of 6 months old).
First there was Deloitte's Halloween party at the office. The kids went to each admin cube to trick or treat, plus they had a couple games. One was bobbing for gummy worms where they put the worms on a plate and cover them with whipped cream. The kids wouldn't try it since they don't like whipped cream.
Right after that, we headed to our ward Halloween party. After chili and hot dogs, the kids tried out the donut hang. Neither broke the rules until after 20 minutes of nibbling away at their donut when I offer to tear it off for them. We had trunk or treat in the parking lot where the kids collected even more candy. I decorated the car with a couple things from the dollar store. I think I'll do the ghost balloons again. They were pretty cute.

Pumpking Painting Round 2 = SUCCESS
Round 2 of pumpkin painting was much better. Kevin had spent the afternoon at Isabel's house while I took Jonathan to his check-up then fell asleep in the car on the way over. That was good thing since once he woke up he wasn't tired and cranky. Happy kids made painting so much more fun.
We painted pumpkins with acrylic paint this time instead of tempura. We let them dry and then broke out the sticker box and let the kids go to town.
