Making Friends - Treat Delivery

The kids and I made cinnamon rolls on Sunday and decided to make extras and figure out someone take them to.  I guess we need to start someone with this whole meeting/making friends with people.  Anyways, they weren't done early enough on Sunday to take them so we waiting until Monday evening.  I had been asking Kherington during the day who she wanted to take the treats to and she kept mentioning a boy in her Primary class.

As a little pep talk for myself I read some articles about making friends.  The main thing that stuck out was that if you don't try then you won't have any.  You either have an awkward encounter and you may or may not end up friends, or you don't do anything and don't have any friends.  So I had the cinnamon rolls frosted and ready when Ryan came holding a paper that had been taped to our door.  It was a "Notice to Vacate" because we supposedly hadn't paid our rent.  Are you kidding me?  We paid a couple days early, have a $0 balance online AND I had been home all day so why didn't they just knock on the door so I could have figured out the problem while the apartment complex office was open.  At this point, I didn't want to go take treats and have awkward encounters with anyone, but I kept thinking suck it up...you still got to start somewhere and could it really get much worse?

Well, Ryan had thought of a couple families to take the cinnamon rolls to also.  When we were in the car, Kherington kept talking about taking them to this boy's family so we decided to go there first.  Now for the funny part.

We knocked on the door but there wasn't any answer even though we could hear kids.  Knowing it was FHE night, I wasn't sure if they didn't heard the door knock of if it's family time so they ignored it.  Then we finally rang the doorbell and someone answered the door.  Whew.  Step one done.  We went in and started to chat a little and the husband asks if want to stay for FHE.  We're like, oh no, we just came by to drop off some treats for your FHE.  Their kids were just finishing up their baths and the house was what our house looked like after a day with kids and he's trying to pick-up things a little.  We still ended up sitting down and chatting for a while and finally the husband asked if I got his wife's phone message.  Uh, I'm not so good about keeping tabs on my phone and didn't get the voicemail.  Well, turns out she had left a message inviting us to join them for FHE that evening, but I had never responded plus it was supposed to be for 30 minutes before we actually came to drop the treats off.  Haha.  Slightly awkward, but really funny.  I'm just glad he actually said something, because that would make us really really weird if we did that.  At least it makes me laugh.

We dropped treats off at two other families houses and were able to chat with both of them a little bit.  I'm not sure what people think about people randomly stopping by in the evening especially when they don't know us, but I think it was good way for us to start meeting some people.  Who knows, maybe we'll even make some friends.

37 Week Pregnancy Update

This pregnancy has just been different than the other two.  Baby is growing healthy and everything.  A couple medical things like the glucose screening and the Rh shot (both supposed to get around 28 weeks which coincided with moving countries) got dropped.  Hopefully that doesn't cause problems in the future (I did get the Rh shot at my last appointment and they said as long as I had it before giving birth it's not a huge deal).  The main thing that is different is that I just have no motivation to do anything.  I was nearly 2 weeks late with Kevin and I don't remember feeling this way.  Currently I have pretty low expectations...the goal is to get one thing accomplished a day and for the most part those are really small things (blog post, walmart run, cut kids hair, craft with kids, etc).  Ryan really unpacked and organized 90% of our house (I unpacked the kitchen...it still not super organized though).  On top of having no motivation, I still don't have any friends which makes it hard get out and do anything.  Then you add on that this little man's feet are shoved into my ribcage and I that I can never actually fall asleep at night plus a double dose of hormones that make me an emotional mess which I know is not normal me and just makes me feel like I'm going crazy...yeah, so a different pregnancy. Can't wait for this baby to come out so I can regain some sanity.

Kids Dress-Up

Kevin is back to loving his skirt.  If Kherington has any type of dress-up on or if I put music on, he runs to get his skirt.  I keep thinking he'll grow out of it, but apparently that isn't happening anytime soon.  We also have a nice little loop that we can with the kids on their bikes that doesn't involve crossing any roads (just a couple driveways). I'm hoping with enough time on their balance bikes they'll both be ready for a real bike come April (birthday time).

Donut Run

Saturday morning I slept in and Ryan took the kids to try out a donut place.  The kids were pretty excited about their donuts.  They both opted for sprinkle donuts, but as the picture shows, Kevin made sure to eat everyone elses before diving in on his own :).  Ryan also got some kolache to try...apparently there are lots of type of these...they are basically a pig in a blanket.

A little later me and kids made the cookies from the cut cookie jar mix Becca gave us at Christmas.

Everyday Life

We still haven't gotten into a rhythm here.  The kids have way too much computer time (youtube or pbs kids).  The only redeeming quality is they often end up playing letter or word games on pbs kids.  They especially like British youtube cartoons.  We (read Ryan) got the playroom all the way unpacked and organized.  After just one day all I can think is that I'm not sure I could live without it.  The kids actually go in there and play.  It is awesome...even more so since we don't currently have a yard for them to run outside and play in.  Kherington is loving primary.  Kevin still isn't so thrilled with nursery.

It has been a pretty hard adjustment.  We still don't have any friends.  I've thought about taking treats to people, but don't even know who to take them to...we really don't know anyone.  It bites.  Hopefully since we're past the Holidays, people will be around more and we'll start meet someone.  We'll see.

Ringing in the New Year

We spent New Year's Eve with Ryan's cousins which of course included the two dogs.  Every time we see the dogs the kids are a little scared at the beginning, but quickly warm up and love them.  With that said, we will never have a dog so it's nice they can get their fill in at other people's places.  We had some good food and played games.   The kids got to play in the play pen (keeps the kids in and the dogs out).

Kherington fell asleep around 10 and Kevin lasted until 11 (he woke up from nap right before heading over to Chris & Heidi's).

Speaking in Church

Ryan spoke in church today and did an awesome job. I had multiple people tell me they loved his talk and one sister told me she did something she has never done.  She took notes.  It was really good.  He talked about making moment that matter as opposed to setting specific goals for 2014.  This is slightly funny because the moments that matter thing came from something that Deloitte is encouraging their employees to do with their clients.  Anyways, it is true.  Thinking back on all the awesome things we've been able to do as a family in the last couple years, it is interesting to hear that the things that the kids remember aren't usually anything huge.  For example, from our UK trip, the kids remember driving an ATV by themselves as opposed to touring Edinburgh castle.

After church we had quite movie time which mean naps from Kevin, Ryan and myself and movie for Kherington. Then we headed out to Denton to visit with the Passey's.  They lived in Belgium at the same time as us.  We had a great time catching up with them, sharing what has been going on in Belgium for the last 2 years and learning about Texas.
