Making Friends - Treat Delivery

The kids and I made cinnamon rolls on Sunday and decided to make extras and figure out someone take them to.  I guess we need to start someone with this whole meeting/making friends with people.  Anyways, they weren't done early enough on Sunday to take them so we waiting until Monday evening.  I had been asking Kherington during the day who she wanted to take the treats to and she kept mentioning a boy in her Primary class.

As a little pep talk for myself I read some articles about making friends.  The main thing that stuck out was that if you don't try then you won't have any.  You either have an awkward encounter and you may or may not end up friends, or you don't do anything and don't have any friends.  So I had the cinnamon rolls frosted and ready when Ryan came holding a paper that had been taped to our door.  It was a "Notice to Vacate" because we supposedly hadn't paid our rent.  Are you kidding me?  We paid a couple days early, have a $0 balance online AND I had been home all day so why didn't they just knock on the door so I could have figured out the problem while the apartment complex office was open.  At this point, I didn't want to go take treats and have awkward encounters with anyone, but I kept thinking suck it up...you still got to start somewhere and could it really get much worse?

Well, Ryan had thought of a couple families to take the cinnamon rolls to also.  When we were in the car, Kherington kept talking about taking them to this boy's family so we decided to go there first.  Now for the funny part.

We knocked on the door but there wasn't any answer even though we could hear kids.  Knowing it was FHE night, I wasn't sure if they didn't heard the door knock of if it's family time so they ignored it.  Then we finally rang the doorbell and someone answered the door.  Whew.  Step one done.  We went in and started to chat a little and the husband asks if want to stay for FHE.  We're like, oh no, we just came by to drop off some treats for your FHE.  Their kids were just finishing up their baths and the house was what our house looked like after a day with kids and he's trying to pick-up things a little.  We still ended up sitting down and chatting for a while and finally the husband asked if I got his wife's phone message.  Uh, I'm not so good about keeping tabs on my phone and didn't get the voicemail.  Well, turns out she had left a message inviting us to join them for FHE that evening, but I had never responded plus it was supposed to be for 30 minutes before we actually came to drop the treats off.  Haha.  Slightly awkward, but really funny.  I'm just glad he actually said something, because that would make us really really weird if we did that.  At least it makes me laugh.

We dropped treats off at two other families houses and were able to chat with both of them a little bit.  I'm not sure what people think about people randomly stopping by in the evening especially when they don't know us, but I think it was good way for us to start meeting some people.  Who knows, maybe we'll even make some friends.
