Trier & The Elephant Parade

We headed off for a short day trip to Trier, Germany.  It ended up being a beautiful day and I guess everyone else wanted to go wander around also.  We ended up parking at the hospital because all the other underground parking area's were full.  We did a short walk out of our guide book which started us at the Porta Nigra.

The walk also took us past Karl Marx pink house which now has a euro store at the ground level and also past a house with a floating door.  This door used to be the only entrance and there were movable stair accessing it.  It reminded me a little of Rapunzel :).  We found a free potty...it was a porter potty outside an old basilica.  But it had some fun fountains with animals spitting water for the kids to enjoy.
Kherington and Kevin took turns choosing what they wanted to take pictures by.  Kherington really liked his statue she picked out and Kevin wanted to go play in the fountain that is behind him and Kherington.
We ended out tour with the Roman amphitheater. We figured the kids had never been in one and now was their chance.  In one of the pictures they were mad at each other because one wasn't waiting for the other so I bribed them with some M&Ms to get them to smile.  I've loved looking back of the pictures of the two of them all around the world.
All throughout Trier (and Luxembourg) there is an elephant parade so on nearly every corner we came across a different type of elephant.  The kids loved it and insisted on taking pictures with each one.  Kevin was very fond of the trunks.

As we were wandering back through the main streets, we first came across drummers dressed all in back walking through town on stilts.  The kids loved them.  Then later we saw some 'red, spiky tall people' as Kherington called them.
To end our day of fun, we stopped at a delicious ice cream cafe.  The kids each got to choose their own then Ryan and I shared a delicious parfait.  Kevin choose spaghetti complete with strawberry sauce and shredded white chocolate and Kherington had a Pinocchio.  When they came out they were so excited they didn't want to focus me taking a picture.
